Driver Who Killed 7-Year-Old Girl Gets 15 Years

Friday morning in Worth County District Court, Aaron DwayneGunderson, age 31 of Northwood, was sentenced to 15 years in prison, after changing his plea of not guilty to guilty earlier this month.  Gunderson was charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and one count of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident resulting in death.  On the morning of May 10th, 2011,Gunderson was traveling more than 60 miles per hour when he drove his pickup past a school bus that was stopped with its lights flashing as 7-year-old Kadyn Halverson was about to board, striking the girl.  Kadyn died at the scene.  In court Friday morning, her mother talked about the details of the accident, and how losing her daughter has affectedtheir family.  When given his chance to speak to those in attendance in the courtroom, Gunderson completely broke down, and through sobs said he was so sorry and he cannot imagine what he’s takenfrom the Halverson’s.
