Lagging Harvest

Minnesota farmers have started harvesting corn and soybeans.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly crop weather report for Minnesota says as of Sunday, 2 percent of corn was harvested. That's the same level as last year but slightly behind the five-year average of 3 percent.

Soybeans were 3 percent harvested, compared with 6 percent last year and 9 percent average.

The sugar beet harvest advanced 1 percentage point to 4 percent harvested. That compares with 16 percent last year and 12 percent average. The sweet corn harvest is virtually complete, at 97 percent.

Dry conditions continued despite scattered rain early last week. Topsoil moistures hold steady at 13 percent very short, 35 percent short, 50 percent adequate and 2 percent surplus.
