Renae Sather, News & Creative Services Director

After hearing a radio announcement advertising a copywriting position open at her hometown radio station, Renae Sather applied for it, using her creative writing skills to land the job. During the months that followed, she got a hands-on education in not only copywriting, but recording spots, working with clients, and finally doing weekend air shifts. Over the years Renae has worked at other radio stations and other broadcasting companies, and gained experience in almost all aspects of the industry, from on-air to sales to programming management. After taking several years off to raise her family...two daughters and a son...she came back to that same hometown radio station, KATE to fill in part-time, and recently stepped into the shoes of News Director. Renae was born and raised in Freeborn County, is a graduate of Albert Lea High School, and enjoys life here with her family and friends. Renae and her husband, Neil, have two daughters and a son. She brings some of that "old school" broadcasting flavor to the ever-changing industry!

Darrel Amundson, Morning Show Host & Production Director

Darrel was born and raised in Albert Lea, Minnesota....a hometown boy that caught the radio bug early in life.  “I’ve wanted to be on the radio for as long as I can remember.”  Darrel is a music fanatic….especially on 50’s, 60’s and 70’s….loves trivia on that era and collects and loves anything Beatles.  Darrel was first on KATE in 1966 with a Junior Achievement Program that produced a program once a week. He graduated from Albert Lea High School and eventually wound up at Brown Institute.  As if radio isn’t enough to keep him occupied…..Darrel is involved with two local bands….bass player, vocals and whatever else he can play.  “A love of music and radio keeps me busy”….Darrel is married to “the sarge” (Pat) and has three kids….5 grandsons and 3 cats.  What a crew to keep up with.  As my favorite plaque says….”we had to get rid of the kids….the cat was allergic.”  Favorite memories….meeting Paul and Linda McCartney…..having the band play before The Beatles’ first drummer Pete Best and his band where we wound up winning a trip to Iceland for 2nd Place….and everyday there’s something on the radio I love to remember. Darrel has been an icon at KATE Radio for over 35 years.
