Vikings

Is this team 14-2 good? That’s the question on my mind this week as Minnesota gets set for Carolina. The post bye week wins have all had eye opening moments and every time I think this team is due for a loss just because it’s football and it’s weird, the Vikings end up notching another impressive win. The Vikings are better on tape and better on paper than Carolina (hence the reason they are a two point road favorite). On the flip side, the game is in Carolina and while the Vikings are scratching for the one seed, Carolina is scratching for the playoffs, so there’s plenty of incentive on both ends. Initially I looked at this game like I did Atlanta in that I liked the Vikings in most categories but thought they would lose just because I didn’t envision them going 14-2 and the Falcons are a formidable opponent especially at home. I’m throwing that logic out the window for this Sunday and asking again, can this team go 14-2?

Gophers

A tough loss at Nebraska on Tuesday has some wondering about the Gophers and where they go from here. I am not one of those wondering. Sure the loss to Nebraska isn’t ideal and it sent the Gophers to a second loss in three games but they are fine. My only question now is the only question I had at the beginning of the year, the depth. The depth worries me because when we get into the thick of the conference season I don’t know who Richard Pitino will trust off the bench for consistent minutes outside of Isaiah Washington. The starting five is so good and so talented though that it will mask some of those bench issues. Up next is a tough road game tomorrow at Arkansas. I love the uptick in difficulty for this non-conference schedule this year for the Gophers. Pitino knows and we know he has a top 25 team and a team destined for March. You might as well try and find out a little more about them by setting up some difficult matchups in the non-conference. Fear not Gophers fans, this team will be fine.
