The Albert Lea Boys Golf team traveled to Faribault Golf and Country Club on Thursday to take part in the Midseason Big 9 Conference tournament. Last year, the team won the midseason tournament by 14 strokes when they played host at Green Lea golf course. The Tigers were tied with Rochester Mayo as most of the Albert Lea team waited for their number six player Ben Rasmussen to finish his round. Ben was six over par on the day heading into hole 18. Needing a par or better to win, he hit his third shot on the green to 7 feet from the pin and proceeded to make the birdie putt giving the Tigers a one-stroke victory. With this win, the Tigers are in first place in the Big 9 and improved their record to 17-0
The team ended with a combined score of 302 which tied their second-best score in the last 6 years. Drew Teeter led the team with a score of 72 which put him in a three-way tie for the best score in the field. Drew was followed by Archie Nelson (74) Ben Rasmussen (77) and Nick Belshan (79). This was Nick Belshan’s first competitive match score in the 70’s this season.

The Albert Lea Girls Golf team played the mid-season Conference tourney today at Northern Hills golf course in Rochester.  The Tigers won the tournament shooting a 351.  Scoring for the Tigers were Alyssa Jensen and Ashlyn Berven with 83, Whitney Mullenbach 90, and Addi Herr 95.  Berven firing that 83 was amazing!  She played very relaxed and controlled.  Alyssa came through again with a great round.  Whitney had some back issues that we are hoping are going to be OK.  Addi came back with a 43 on the back 9 to have a good score for us today.  This was a very important win for us to beat Northfield.  We are playing great golf right now and have 5 girls who have scored for us this season.  That is the difference from last year.  We put ourselves in a great position but need to keep our focus on each golf meet.
