Crop Progress & Condition

Minnesota had 5.7 days suitable for fieldwork for the
week ending July 24, 2022, according to the USDA’s
National Agricultural Statistics Service. Weekend rain
provided some much-needed moisture in some areas,
but more rain would be welcome throughout most of
the state.
Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 7 percent very
short, 17 percent short, 70 percent adequate, and
6 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were
rated 4 percent very short, 17 percent short,
75 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus.
Corn silking was at 49 percent, 6 days behind average.
Corn condition was 2 percent very poor, 6 percent
poor, 29 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 10 percent
excellent. Soybeans blooming or beyond reached
69 percent, slightly behind the 5-year average.
Soybeans setting pods reached 18 percent. Soybean
condition was 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor,
32 percent fair, 52 percent good, and 10 percent
excellent.
Oats were 93 percent headed, 60 percent coloring, and
10 percent harvested. Oat condition was 1 percent very
poor, 5 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 52 percent good,
and 10 percent excellent. Spring wheat was 94 percent
headed and 21 percent coloring. Spring wheat
condition was 0 percent very poor, 0 percent poor,
28 percent fair, 66 percent good, and 6 percent
excellent. Barley was 92 percent headed and
30 percent coloring. Barley condition was 0 percent
very poor, 1 percent poor, 44 percent fair, 50 percent
good, and 5 percent excellent.
Dry edible beans were 75 percent blooming and
13 percent setting pods. Dry edible bean condition was
0 percent very poor, 1 percent poor, 33 percent fair,
55 percent good, and 11 percent excellent. Sunflower
condition was 0 percent very poor, 0 percent poor,
15 percent fair, 78 percent good, and 7 percent
excellent. Alfalfa hay second cutting was at
68 percent.
Potato condition was 0 percent very poor, 0 percent
poor, 4 percent fair, 69 percent good, and 27 percent
excellent. Sugarbeet condition was 2 percent very
poor, 6 percent poor, 21 percent fair, 16 percent good,
and 55 percent excellent.
All hay condition was rated at 1 percent very poor,
4 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 61 percent good, and
15 percent excellent. Pasture condition was rated at
2 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 23 percent fair,
57 percent good, and 12 percent excellent.
