Coaches Comment: Tough match against a good Medford team, but proud of how our kids battled. They ran a faster tempo on offense than what we’ve seen this year, but our kids did a better job of adjusting to that pace when we got to Set 3. Unfortunately, Medford won the Serve and Serve Receive battle tonight so they were able to be more offensive than we were, and that was really the story of the match. There were certainly a lot of positives though as we seemed to move and scrap better defensively as the match went on. We also hit for the best percentage we have all season long, with far more kills than errors, so we’re going to look to continue that trend at the net. Overall, it was a good match to continue to build on and we look forward to our next outing at St. Clair on Thursday.
USC is now 0-3 (0-1 Gopher) and the Rebels play again on Thursday at St. Clair.

** We have still only lost 2 sets this year.  Both to the #4 rated team in 3A.  We competed with them and have to continue to find lessons from that lose.

I was very happy with our offense tonight.  That started with some great digs defensively and then Karli finding our hitters.  We controlled things enough that we didn’t get through a lot of rotation but we took advantage of our opportunities throughout the night.
We are working harder to be a team that you have to defend pin to pin.  Finley is a great weapon on the right so we have to get her more swings.  We have to establish the middle in all six rotations and when we do this we will be much tougher to defend.
Karli continues to find ways to get our offense going.  She has stepped up at match time and that is impressive to see.  She works hard to get the ball distributed effectively.
Defensively we had a great night.  We dug the ball very well and put the ball in Karli’s hands.  Our 4 key defensive players; Natalie, Brynn, Taylor, and Finley have great skills and if they continue to trust themselves and each other we can defend against great teams.
We also had one of our best nights at the net.  We blocked very well and forced teams to swing around us and right into our coverage.

What I am most impressed by is our serving tonight.  We have spent 10 days working on just being accurate.  Increase our percentage.  In our previous 6 matches, we all improved our serving percentage and our team percentage went to nearly 94%.  Since Saturday, our focus shifted to our aggressiveness.  Stay accurate but now be more aggressive.  Tonight we served at an amazing 97%, 71 of 73.  We also added in 11 ace serves.  A great night.
Dottie 5-6
Taylor 21-21, 6 aces
Karli 12-12
Ellie 16-17, 4 aces
Natalie 5-5
Finley 9-9, 1 ace
Taylor was brutal at the service line.  She hit short and long serves.  Seeing the girls work hard at something and then see them have success is a joy.  We continue to focus on finding ways to get better.  Our level of competition will continue to get better at Forest City this weekend and then when we travel to North Union on Tuesday before we head to Nevada to play in one fo the strongest tournaments we have ever been in.
We get back to work tomorrow and know what we need to continue to do.
