Farmfest Underway in MN

Minnesota Farmers Union (MFU) and Farmers Union Agency (FUA), a full-service insurance agency fully owned by MFU, invite you to visit them at Farmfest.

MFU and FUA staff and Agents will be at Farmfest, Aug. 1-3, in lot 509, a blue hoop building just west of the Wick Buildings Farmfest Center. Farmfest is held at Gilfillan Estate near Morgan, Minn.

Farmers Union is celebrating 80 years of Farmers Union Youth Leadership Camps at Farmfest this year. Summer camps are held at Farmers Union’s Lake Sarah Park and Campground near Erskine and Sibley State Park near New London.

“The early leaders of Farmers Union prioritized education of farmers by farmers,” said MFU President Gary Wertish. “We are proud to not only carry on this tradition of educating future leaders, but to also grow the camps to educate non-farm children and to make connections between rural, urban and suburban youth.”

In celebration of 80 years of camps, a Scamp pull-behind camper trailer is being raffled to raise money to support camp programming. The camper will be on display at the hoop barn. Past campers are invited to stop by and share their memories.

Right next door to the hoop barn, Pizzeria201 will be serving wood-fired 10-inch pizzas, jumbo soft pretzels with beer cheese sauce, pepperoncini dip with a fresh baguette and desserts all three days of Farmfest.

Farmers Union leaders will also participate in events at Farmfest. National Farmers Union President Rob Larew will be a panelist for The New Farm Bill and USDA Ag Policy Issues forum at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Wick Buildings Farmfest Center. MFU Climate and Working Lands Program Director Ariel Kagan will speak at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday as part of a Climate-Smart Practices for Livestock Producers presentation in the Livestock Tent. Kagan will also be a panelist for the Understanding Climate-Smart Practices and Policies panel at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday in the Wick Buildings Farmfest Center.
