MN Crop Progress

Minnesota farmers had 6.4 days suitable for
fieldwork for the week ending July 23, 2023,
according to the USDA’s National Agricultural
Statistics Service. Continued lack of rain and insect
activity were top concerns. Livestock were doing well
with no issues reported.
Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 22 percent very
short, 42 percent short, 35 percent adequate, and
1 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were
rated 19 percent very short, 42 percent short,
38 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.
Corn silking reached 72 percent, 1 week ahead of last
year and 2 days ahead of the 5-year average. Corn in
the dough stage reached 18 percent. Corn condition
was 54 percent good to excellent.
Soybeans were 78 percent blooming, 6 days ahead of
last year and 2 days ahead of the 5-year average.
Soybeans reached 43 percent setting pods. Soybean
condition was 56 percent good to excellent.
Barley was 95 percent headed, 67 percent coloring,
and 6 percent of the crop was harvested. Barley
condition fell to 59 percent good to excellent.
Oats were 78 percent coloring and harvest of the crop
was at 18 percent. Oat condition was 43 percent good
to excellent.
Spring wheat coloring was at 68 percent and harvest
began at 1 percent. Spring wheat condition was
74 percent good to excellent.
Dry edible beans reached 74 percent blooming with
40 percent of the crop setting pods. Dry edible beans
condition dropped to 59 percent good to excellent. The
second cutting of alfalfa hay was at 77 percent.
All hay condition was rated 38 percent good to
excellent, and pasture condition was rated
32 percent good to excellent. Condition of the potato
crop was 86 percent good to excellent. Sugarbeet
condition was 91 percent good to excellent. Sunflower
condition was 83 percent good to excellent.
