MFU donates $5,000 to Maui Response Fund

The Minnesota Farmers Union Executive Committee voted last week to send $5,000 to the Hawaii Farmers Union Foundation Maui Response Fund.

More than 114 people were killed in deadly wildfires that swept across the Hawaiian island of Maui earlier this month, blackening the city of Lahaina and causing damage in several other parts of the island.

Hawaii Farmers Union United is collaborating with community groups and organizations to provide immediate relief. The Maui Response Fund has been established to support immediate emergency relief, market restoration, mental health support and land access initiatives.

When our neighbors need a hand, Minnesotans are always among the first to lend their support,” said Minnesota Farmers Union (MFU) President Gary Wertish. “Recovering from this devastating wildfire is going to take perseverance and support. We send our prayers for continued good weather to aid in cleanup efforts and our determination to strengthen Hawaiian farmers as they rebuild their farms and forge ahead.”
