Some warmer and drier weather yielded 2.6 days
suitable for fieldwork during the week ending May 8,
2022, according to USDA’s National Agricultural
Statistics Service.

Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 1 percent very
short, 4 percent short, 69 percent adequate, and 26
percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were rated
2 percent very short, 13 percent short, 69
percent adequate, and 16 percent surplus.
Corn planting reached 9 percent complete, compared
to 48 percent last year and the 5-year average of 81
percent. Soybean planting was 2 percent complete,
compared to 59 percent last year and the 5-year
average of 25 percent.
Statewide, planting progress for spring wheat is at 2
percent, oats at 23 percent, barley at 5 percent, and
potatoes and sugarbeets at 8 percent.
All hay condition was rated at 12 percent very poor, 9
percent poor, 27 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 6
percent excellent. Pasture condition was rated at 21
percent very poor, 11 percent poor, 37 percent fair, 28
percent good, and 3 percent excellent.
