Minnesota Crop Progress & Condition

Minnesota experienced colder than normal
temperatures with continued snow and rain over most
of the state, resulting in 0.3 days suitable for
fieldwork for the week ending April 23, 2023,
according to the USDA’s National Agricultural
Statistics Service. Fieldwork was limited to spreading
manure. Livestock were doing well despite fluctuating
temperatures.
Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 3 percent very
short, 5 percent short, 59 percent adequate, and
33 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were
rated 3 percent very short, 12 percent short,
66 percent adequate, and 19 percent surplus. Pasture
conditions were rated 28 percent good to excellent.
Oats planted was reported at 5 percent, below the
five-year average of 15 percent for this time of year,
and ahead of last year’s 2 percent. Oats were just
beginning to emerge at 1 percent. Corn planted was
very limited at 1 percent.
